I am Home

I am sheltered from rain, hail, lightning, snow I am sheltered from all the things that might hurt me. I am loved I am safe I am home. Home smells like rice cooking, banchan set out like pieces of gold on the table, and the feel of hot soup running down my throat, as if eager to fall into my stomach below. As I walk down the halls past doors leading to rooms and closets, I can recall memories all rushing to be replayed in my mind, like treasure’s embedded into the walls. I can go to sleep knowing I am safe and wake up to the beautiful sun rising slowly above me, on its mission to warm the earth. The stars, high above me, so bright, calling to me like sirens, persuading me to look up. I am awed at their beauty. Hearing the rain fall onto the roof, it’s a familiar sound that has watched over me for as long as I can remember, coming by often to hydrate the earth and say hello to its people. Walking into a classroom where I know everyone is respected, where I know I will laugh and play with ones who love me. I am awed at Habit for Humanity’s work, for they can give opportunities to feel this amazing feeling of happiness, safety, and warmth to people who most need it. Thank you Habit for Humanity, for giving me the opportunity to help my community.
