The Habitat of the Heart

Every day has its triumph and trouble Home is like a safety bubble Anxiety we keep in a secret pouch It fades into the background when we sit on the couch Home can be a familiar place It may be a mother's embrace It wraps around you like a blanket with care It helps heal your wounds when life isn't fair The habitat of the heart A place where everyone does their part A place we can find hope and humanity And tackle our faults, fears, and our vanity A home is more than a foundation and walls It picks us up after all of our falls In it, your family will give you tough love When you're too scared and need a push or a shove After all the years when you're good and grown You'll never forget the place you called home Home means love, laughter, forgiveness and joy Whether you're old, young, a girl, or a boy In a home we can find family and unity All through the defeat and opportunity The house that you live in may not be your home Because home is the feeling that you're not alone It's your boat in the sea, your port in the storm It could be your small college dorm It really could be any kind of noun But no matter what, it won't let you down In your home, there's no pressure to be great To every sad story, someone can relate Don't know what I'd do without my "fun" brother We'll be okay if we have each other So I guess in the end what I'm trying to say Is home is forever at the end of the day
