How is Canada Home to Me?

I was born and raised in Canada so it’s the only place I call home. It is also the homeland of 39 million Canadians (Source: Statistics Canada). Although I have not been to other countries, I have friends and classmates from different races and origins. Canada is an extraordinary country. Here are the reasons why I love Canada. Canada ensures the residents’ safety through comprehensive legislation and law enforcement systems. Since 1981, the Federal, Provincial, and Territorial deputy ministers responsible for justice and public safety have been working together to protect Canada. The rate of violent crime is much lower than in the United States (as shown below figure, Source: Statistics Canada). It’s safe from guns and terrorists. Parliament of Canada Bill C-21 is legislation that would make sweeping changes to gun ownership including prohibiting the sale of restricted firearms such as handguns. Canada has a strong and well-funded system of public education. Canada is one of the most educated countries in the world. In 2015, 90 percent of people in Canada aged 25 to 64 had at least completed high school (Source: Universities Canada). The public school system is free for primary and secondary students. Canada encourages people to pursue higher education through various scholarships. Canada is a fair society. In some countries, people are terrified to even get sick as they can’t afford hospital fees. While Canada has public healthcare systems. In Canada, most people get the resources they need when they need them. Canadians aren’t that stressed about money, instead they choose their careers based on their interests and passions. Canada has enormous and very beautiful landscapes. It is the second largest country in the world. The mountains pierce through the sky itself. The lakes go as deep as the earth’s core. When it snows it feels like I'm walking into a fairytale. When it’s summer, it feels like the sun is being pulled to the earth. Canada is a welcoming country, immigrants from all over the world come here. There is a lot of diversity everywhere: people speak different languages, have different traditions, celebrate different holidays, and have different beliefs. But people respect each other and unite across Canada. We correct what we did wrong or do the best of our capabilities. Canada is rich in natural resources. Oil and gas production is self-sufficient and can last at least 300 years in current demand of 161.7 million barrels per year. Canada also preserves renewable resources including forestry, fishery, fresh water, wild animals, and land. And of course, we have athletes. They compete in the top box, the home of exercise. When we cheer for athletes we feel proud of them and Canada. They put so much dedication to compete in the Olympics. Canada helped them pursue their dreams. 215 athletes attended the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing (Source: olympic.ca). Canada is a great country to live in. It’s full of new adventures. Find your passions, pursue your dreams and the country will back you up. These are what I feel Canada’s home to me.
