Home in a New Chapter

Home is a place where in the darkest of times you will always feel loved. The year was 2020. I was about to get into a blue ford truck in Nigeria, a country on the Western African continent. That same day, my cousins {Tolu and Lashe} had come over for a sleepover one last time. When we got down the stairs the next morning, I could see gray, red, and blue bags labeled food, clothes, and shoes in black thick sharpie. We saw Mr. Adebisi. He was packing loads and loads of bags into the Toyota Corolla we had. I asked my dad named Ekaro, which means good morning in the native language of Yoruba, when we were to be leaving and he said in about 30 minutes. I was taking my cousins ford truck and their dad who has a loud, deep voice, said that my parents would be coming in another car with the baggage and that they would meet us at the International Mutala Muhammed airport in Lagos, Nigeria. We entered the airport and it smelled like scented strawberry candles. It was busy with lots of people who were hoping to meet family in another country or relocating to another country. Home is not something you can define but something you experience and that experience can never be bought or sold. Love is what home is. Family is what home is. I am grateful to have all of those things in my life. Thank you {Habitat for Humanity} for this opportunity to express what home is and I will be forever grateful!
