Home Is My Story

A doorknob turns and there I am. Home. Smells waft from the kitchen, and one thing is true. Homemade is better than storebought. My mom’s banana chocolate chip muffins that taste like a chunk off heaven. Despite the fact I am probably the pickiest eater ever, I’m grateful for the thought my mom puts into making meals. Though I would enjoy some more hamburger casserole from time to time… Home is a place where messes are made. Where mistakes are for learning, and imperfections are celebrated. Home is a swipe of paint here and a dab over there. It’s abstract. You can move, but home is where your loved ones are. Home should be a haven. Where you are free to be you and are safe. Unfortunately, some homes are barely more than a house. I hope that as time passes, we can fix this hole in our roof. Life is a book. My favourite book. And home is the beginning when all is well, but also the happily-ever-after. Thank you, Habitat for Humanity, for providing others with their story.
