The meaning of home

“Morning Riley,” her mom says as she’s slowly walking to the breakfast table. “Morning Mom. What's for breakfast?” “Scrambled eggs and bacon,” she says as she’s putting a plate of it in front of Riley. “Hey Mom?” “What Sweetie?” “Yesterday, when we were taking a walk I saw a girl and she had dirty clothes on and no shoes. What happened her?” “Well she was homeless. Some people don't have a home or family.” “Really? She looked only 12 and she didn't have a family!” “ Yep you're a lucky girl! Anyway, we have to go, the fridges aren't gonna stock themselves!” “Haha,” Ryley said, still thinking about what her mom had said. “We’ve got to go.” “Oh sorry, Mom.” Ryley ran out the door to the car. After grocery shopping they were in the car driving home or so she thought. “Hey, Mom, where are we going?” Ryley asked as the car stopped right in front of an old building. “You’ll see.” Her mom got out of the car and grabbed a bag with water, fruit, vegetables, and crackers. “What are you doing, Mom?” Ryley’s mom walked over to a girl with dirty clothes on and brown hair. “Here you go, Honey.” The girl looked up and slowly took the bag. She looked inside and smiled. “ Thank you so much,” She said softly. Ryley and her mom felt happy inside! They got into the car and drove away smiling! To me home is for being there and helping.
