The meaning of home
You may have heard the saying “Home is where the heart is.” You can find posters or signs at almost every home decor store with this saying. I want to explain what this saying means to me.
Home is where you feel free, where you can be creative and are not forced to live the way everyone wants you to. Many of us, when we were younger probably bragged to our friends about how big our house was. With a home it’s different, your home can be the world – an infinite size. You can be whoever and whatever you want to be. People of all complexions, religions or size any size, it doesn’t matter, no one judges you when you’re home. It’s not just bricks and mortar. Home is where you’re surrounded by love, comfort and support. Where good times and bad times occur and everyone can forgive. In a home we can build each other up and knock each other down, but still love each other.
You can feel home in your heart. You can feel it when you smell your grandmother’s freshly baked cookies, when you’re laughing with your friends or when you and your siblings are playing with Lego. Even when you’re stuffing your face with Thanksgiving turkey until you’re completely full.
You may not have a house, but you can still have a home. If you have friends and if you feel safe or happy with a community of people then you have a home. A home will always have a place in your heart and no one can ever take that away from you. This goes to show that home truly is where the heart is….and your heart is always where you are.
