Grade 5

Meaning of home

You and I should be grateful that we even have a home because many others aren’t as lucky. Homes give us shelter and warmth, but they also give us comfort and happiness. From the day we are born to the day we die, our homes provide us with a feeling of safety and security. Homes can be as small as the tiniest cottage, or as big as a castle, but they are all there for the same thing; to protect us from harsh weather, and give us feelings of peace and joy.

But not as many people are as lucky as we are. Others are found on the street, and people will mistreat them like animals. They are helped in the winter, but they don’t provide the comfort and security, or the privacy that our homes do. They are usually shivering from the cold, and don’t have a comfortable bed like we do. They don’t have a way to make money to provide for themselves and their families.

You should be grateful that we even have a place to call home, because some people don’t have a home at all.
