Home is Where Love is

Home is Where Love is
‘Chirp chirp’ I can hear the birds singing softly as I get up in the morning. I clean my room and make my bed. I can also hear my pet bird smokie sing to herself as she cleans her feathers. Then I go to the bathroom to brush my hair and my teeth. After I’m done getting ready for the day I play with my bird. She is the most gentle soft loving thing, she is the one pet that always makes me smile. While I’m playing with my bird I think ‘smokie your the one that had got me to through this mess, through the divorce, the moving and all of that stuff”.
My parents got divorced when I was 8 years old…… I was devastated. But, my pet got me through that. If only she was there my whole life. As I told you already my parents got divorced when I was 8 years old, then my mom had just taken us to a duplex in Grande Prairie. At first, I had no idea what was going on. My mom took me to a bedroom and said: “This is your new room.”I was so confused and asked why I wasn’t at home. Then she told me that she and dad got separated. She waited to tell me because she would know that I would be even more heartbroken. She told me that I would not have to hear the screaming that they were doing anymore. I guess I was happy but then out of the blue I just started crying “I miss my dad”.
It took some time before I started to feel better. My bird helped me get through this time and I think that I am finally realizing that this place is starting to feel like home. A house is not a home without love, caring, joy and so much more!
