Home Is More Than A House

I am grateful for many things in my life. To me, home isn’t just a house, it’s a community. My family is Chinese, and when they moved to Canada from China, they didn’t know what to do! They had to learn a new language, make new friends, and find a new place to call home. But they found a community to support them. A home doesn’t include a single family, it includes a mass of people, and many families. A home isn’t just a shelter, or a roof above your head. It’s not even just a house or a neighbourhood! A home isn’t created by where you live. It’s forged by the people who live in the community, in the neighbourhood, in buildings!
I don’t know what I would do or where I would be without my home & family. I know that I would crack under the sorrow. Yet here I am, with an amazing, generous family. I am extremely grateful for my home & family. It breaks my heart to know that there are people out there, with no family, no community, and maybe… no home.
I am happy to have a home & a family. My home makes me who I am and is part of me. My house & home will always be full of love, even if we can’t feel it. It will always be a place where I eat, sleep, and feel safe. But it will always be in my heart. I truly love my life. I love almost every single detail about it. Even some of the bad parts. Why? Because I always know that my family and home will always make them better. My life is full of cracks. But my home will always fill those fractures.

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”
