Grade 5

Newfoundland and Labrador

HOME, there’s no place like home.
Home is a place where the week’s old smell of fish cakes still lingering in my nose.
A place where I can feel love in the air and a blanket covering my toes.
Where music and laughter come to life and hugs, kisses, and smiles never end.
Where the driveway is filled when company comes around and when they walk in the door all they can smell is the salty Sunday diner on the stove.
Home is where it is only a two minute walk to the playground where the squeaking of the swings brings friends together.
Home is where we all have our special seats at the table.
Where we grow the biggest carrots and potatoes in the garden and get mad at any little worm that eats the cabbage.
Love is a word we use everyday but we might not realize it.
When I wake up in the morning I have a nice comfortable bed to sleep in and my mom is always there to say good morning.
I can never imagine not having a bed and comfortable house, and I feel very bad for people who don’t have one.
Home is where I get caught getting a sweet snack from the cupboard before supper.
Home, where I am too cozy to get out bed in the morning.
Where you don’t need warm bed sheets because all the love in your heart warms up your whole body.
There’s no place like home, with peace, caring friends and family
and most importantly…. love.
