Amanda and Wally’s Home

One day Amanda was looking out the window, she was wondering, what is the difference between a house and a home? Amanda was trying to figure out the difference, but she couldn’t.
A little later, her dog came in. Amanda said, “Hi Wally! Do you know the difference between a house and a home?” Of course Wally didn’t answer, but he looked like he didn’t know either.
That evening during supper, Amanda asked her parents, “What is the difference between a house and a home?”
Amanda’s mom was first to answer. She said, “Well a home is a place where there is love and peace. A home is a place where you feel safe and comfortable. A home is a place where you are with your family and the ones you love. A home is a place where you are fed and you are healthy. Finally a home is a place where people care about you, and where you can express your feelings without being made fun of.”
Then Amanda’s dad spoke up and he said, “on the other hand a house is just a structure. A house is a place to protect you from bad weather.”
Even if you are super rich, but you don’t have a family and you aren’t happy, then you live in a house not a home.”
“Now, do you get the difference between a house and a home Amanda?”
“Yes Dad. Now I get the difference. Thank-you Mom and Dad for explaining it.” Wally gave a happy bark which sounded like he understood too.
Then Amanda thought, there is a big difference between a house and a home, I’m glad I live in a home with my family, not in a house alone.
