If Home Were the Holidays

One special thing that makes my house a home is the holidays. Christmas - Between December 1st and December 10th my family and I go out into the woods to get a Christmas tree. We look for the trees that aren't too tall and that have enough branches to hold our many ornaments. Every Christmas, my family makes an enormous delicious meal that includes a heavenly turkey, scrumptious candied yams, a homemade broccoli salad, and many other savory dishes. Halloween - Every Halloween my family and I go trick or treating, except for in 2020 when we couldn't due to the Coronavirus. Instead of going trick or treating that year, my parent’s friend made a scavenger hunt. We had to unlock boxes for more clues to where the candy was hidden. I had a blast! While we were looking for clues, my parents stood around a huge bonfire chatting about their week. Birthday - Every year on my birthday, I wake up to the smell of breakfast, usually it's the tasty pancakes that my mom makes. The presents on the table await me to unwrap them. If my birthday is on a school day, I go to school and the principal announces my special day on the announcements. Each year, I have a birthday party even if it's small like 3 people or big like 15 people. I adore my birthday. New Years Eve - On New Years Eve my family and I have an appetizer night. My family calls it an appy night. It is where every person makes an appetizer for dinner. I always make cheesy cheddar nachos. In recent years at midnight, my family and I would go sledding in the freezing cold to slide into the new year. Home is not a house, it is the people in the house and the memories that you make.
