What Home Means to Me

Sometimes, you might ask yourself:-What is a home?.If you look it up in the dictionary, you would probably find that it says it’s a place where you live, or a roof over your head. But for some people,it means something more. It means something completely different to them, and to their family. Home means to me,a safe place. Somewhere you can be happy. A home is not really made of bricks or wood, more the family bond or connection. As long as you are connected to your family, and love them, you can say that you have a home. You can even say that family itself is your home-if you have all the riches in the world, but nobody to share it with, then you can say you are homeless. Before, I said that a home is not necessarily made of bricks and wood. That, I would call a HOUSE. I think this is true because not everybody in the world has the luxury to stay in a home like you or me.No matter how many groups help those without a house, there are still people without a house. Not everybody can go up to their friend and say, hey, can I go play at your house?. A home moves along with you. It doesn’t stay in one spot like a house does.if you and your family went somewhere-whether it’s the streets or the store, you take your home with you . A house can’t do that. It has to stay in one spot cemented to the ground beneath it. Another thing that is kinda sad,is that when people think of a house they think of money and price. They do not look with their heart and think only about cost. I think that the more people think this, the more the difference between house and home fades. The projects and contests that organizations such as Habitat For Humanity help people think about home and about how much we take a house for granted. When kids are asked to write things like this, maybe they think deeply about the topic, and also dive deep into what it means for them.It is an educational and a fun moment as well! I find it encouraging that Montreal has great groups like Habitat for Humanity and CAEH for example. In conclusion, I think that the difference between a house and a home, is that a house is something that stays rooted to the ground and is non-flexible.A home can move with you and be somewhere to go to in sad times.
