What is a Home?
A house is a building that people can live in to stay safe and warm throughout any weather or challenge. But a home is not just a building, it's a way of life, how you live it and who you live it with. My home is not just the house I live in, it's not the room I sleep in. It’s the people I love and care for.
I have never moved to a different house, but my home changes daily. If my family goes to a restaurant or a trip that is my home. For those long car rides or those flights overseas, that is where my home is. At the end of a long and tiring day that is where my home is. My home is where me and my family are. It's where I feel safe and loved, where I’m able to hear and see everyone I care for. For me a home is a place that is full of joy and laughter, full of life and song. And maybe just a bit of dog hair in every room.
But a house is still very important, a house is a place to stay safe and warm. I don’t know how anyone can live in the cold all year long, with no comfort or care. So I’m so glad that there are organizations out there like Habitat for Humanity to help people get back on their feet, give them shelter and a place to stay. I hope by writing this I will be able to help someone get a home, a place where they can live however and whoever they want to be. That is what a home is to me.
