What does home mean to you?

What does home mean to you?

Different cultures have different kinds of houses. We often think about houses made of wood or bricks. But there are many other kinds of houses such as wigwams, teepees, mud houses and the White House in Washington. But what makes a house a home? What’s the difference between a place you just stay in and a place you live in? Is the White House just where the president works or is it actually his home? Does it matter what a house is made out of or is it what the house means to the people who live there?
A house is like a matryoshka doll. The outside is nice to look at but when you open it up to the smallest piece, that’s what makes it special. Family and love is what makes my house a home. For example, in the book Harry Potter, Harry grew up with members of his family but the cupboard under the stairs was only where he lived. It didn’t make for a home because the Dursleys did not really care for him and he doesn’t have happy memories with them. His home turned out to be Hogwarts. Hogwarts is a big magical castle on the outside but it is all the friendships and love happening in the inside of the castle that made it a special home.
Families come in many different shapes and forms like houses. In different families, there could be a mom and a dad or there could be two moms, one mom, one dad or two dads. No matter what family lives in the house, what makes it a home is the memories they share, the relationships between members of the family and the things that they go through.
