Meaning Of Home

Home
There are basic things we need to survive. Air, food, water, sleep and shelter. Shelter can be many things, a cave, a tent, an apartment, or a house. I think we need more than shelter, we need a place we can call home. A house is surely not a home, a house is just a building. A home is where you feel comfortable and safe. You feel this way because you are surrounded by the people who love you and take care of you, the people who fill your heart with warmth and make you feel supported. A home is a place where you let go of all of your worries, stress and any bad thoughts. When I think of “home” I think of my family, pets and where I spend my holidays. These things are some of the things I love the most. My family takes care of me and loves me. My pets are what I take care of every day. I also think of holidays, for example, every year on Thanksgiving my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents come over and we always have a huge dinner and spend the night without any electronics. We spend the whole night talking to each other and being with one another.

There are so many people around the world that don’t have homes. This could be because of natural disasters like hurricanes or fire. They might have had to leave their homes because of war, or they might never even have had a home of their own because of their own particular difficult situation. Habitat for Humanity tries to fix this by bringing people together to build houses that families can turn into homes. Then they can feel the way I do every day.
