Grade 5

Home Is…

Home is…

Well, home to me is a place full of comfort. Warm blankets, comfortable bed that you sleep on, and above all, a soothing atmosphere that makes one feel safe, loved and cared for.
But do you ever take the time to think about people who don’t have homes?

There are about 1.3 million Canadian families who need a safe, clean home. That’s a lot when you think about it! It’s really shocking. Canada is a free, rich country, but there are still families in need.

Most people don’t take the time to realize the homeless people. We have nice warm blankets, and they have a thin ripped blankets. We have soft, comfortable beds, and they have bumpy, rocky concrete.
Have you seen them?
Around a corner of a gas station?
Sleeping on a park bench?
What about on top of a dirty dumpster?
That’s what they have to experience.

For food, it’s really hard because homeless people have no money. To get food they have to go to the nearest convenience store and they steal snacks because they are desperate, tired and hungry. Don’t take meals or anything for granted because there are lots of families in need of shelter and food.

So keep this in your head, and never forget… Home is forever, no matter how big or small, Home is forever.
