Home – Dedicated to Someone Out There

Home – Dedicated to Someone Out There

When I am at home in my bed on a windy, stormy day
Curling up in my favourite brown, fuzzy blanket with a book,
I know there is someone out there who is lying down on a slab of wood
With their head on a pile of newspaper
Shivering and rubbing their numb fingers

When I am at home complaining about my parents not getting pizza,
I know there is someone out there starving
Desperately looking for food to fill their empty stomach

When I am getting ready to go to school arguing with my mom about what I should wear,
I know there is someone out there who has no change of clothes
Wearing only one ragged piece of cloth because they have no more

When I get disappointed for not having enough money to spend unlike some of my friends,
I know there is someone out there who has an empty pocket

When I complain about sharing a room with my little sister
Wanting a bigger house,
I know there is someone out there who is lost in this big world
Looking for shelter

When I have lots of homework and complain about working so hard,
I know there is someone out there who is walking around countless neighbourhoods
Collecting cans and bottles to raise a few cents for survival

When I am sad, I have
My mother’s hugs,
My dad’s comforting words,
My sister’s warm kisses,
And my friends’ smiles
Sadly, there is someone out there, who has nothing to cool his emotions,
Only stares from passersby

When you have little problems like some of mine,
Just think about the problems of someone out there
