A New Hope – Fictional Short Story, by Kaitlynn R.
“Kiera, we can’t pay for this house anymore, and to get to our new house, we are going to have to be on the street for two days.” Mom explained sadly.
“It’s okay. How nice is the new house?” Kiera asked.
“A bit worse than this house, but we’ll survive,” She replied, “we are leaving in three days, so you should start packing up.”
“Okay, I’ll start now” Kiera groaned. How bad could this house be? The house we have now already feels like the worst. There wasn’t heat in the whole house, and they constantly have bugs crawling around.
Kiera started packing all of her clothes in her red bag.
Mom called her down for dinner, then she went to sleep to the sound of the wind.
Mom woke Kiera up early to get a good start to the day. They had a small breakfast, and then gathered all their belongings. “So are we ready?” Mom asked. “OK this house is in Bracebridge and we currently live on the far side of Port Sydney, so it will take us about 2 days to get there.” So the set out, walking over rivers and hills.
At the end of the second day of walking, we finally got there. Kiera walked upstairs, got unpacked and fell asleep to the sounds of crickets chirping.
Kiera woke to the sound of excited talking (which was weird, because Kiera only lived with her Mom). Mom came up the stairs and woke Kiera by telling her that Habitat for Humanity is going to build us a house, but only if they help with building it. Their hearts both lifted, but because it was 2 in the morning, she said to get some sleep. She left and Kiera fell asleep with a new hope.
